Barclays Group CEO C.S. Venkatakrishnan said the firm’s 30,000‑person workforce in India is a key asset as the company supports the Airtel Money IPO in London.
He noted that 30,000 employees represent roughly a third of Barclays’ 100,000‑strong global roster, underscoring the bank’s deepening ties in the sub‑continent.
Venkatakrishnan linked the upcoming IPO to the UK‑India trade agreement, which he said lowers tariffs and streamlines cross‑border goods and services.
In addition to the IPO, Barclays aims to re‑enter India’s equities market, a segment the CEO described as a “missing piece” in the bank’s India strategy.
The CEO highlighted that India’s 7.5% economic growth fuels corporate ambition, pushing mid‑cap firms to seek global capital markets.
Moving forward, Barclays plans to expand its equities and corporate banking footprint, positioning itself to leverage the rising demand for Indian capital access.
