Manipur Police, the CRPF Quick Action Team and CoBRA rolled out a joint sweep of Sinai Camp on Oct. 23, 2026, amid rising scrutiny after the killing of three Meitei civilians near Sunurok Hill.
Seventeen men, eight claiming to be KNA cadres and nine asserting membership in the KLA, were taken into custody after identity checks matched no official records.
The raid netted 24 firearms, 38 magazines, a sizeable stash of ammunition, explosives and wireless communication gear—equipment that could have been used for cross-border skirmishes.
A case has been filed under the Arms Act, the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act and the Explosive Substances Act, and the accused will remain in custody until Oct. 31 while their medical examinations conclude.
The crackdown follows the October 19 attack that killed three Meitei civilians and the subsequent demand from MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh for the removal of the camp. Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam noted the Suspension of Operations expired on Sept. 4, 2026, and that the camp was not authorized for new recruitment. The investigation will probe how the men entered the camp and who controlled the seized weapons. A mother of one of the victims says she hopes the operation will deter future violence.
