The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cracked down on unauthorized social media activity during IPL matches, enforcing strict anti-corruption guidelines that prohibit players, team officials, family members, and broadcasters from filming in restricted areas or posting match-related content. Several former cricketers working as commentators have been reprimanded for recording videos near the players and match officials area (PMOA), with one found filming on his phone near the dugout during a tense match phase.
BCCI officials have issued direct warnings to current players about posting reels on match days, including content that could reveal team selections or travel plans. The board has also instructed immediate family members of players to stop sharing images and videos from team hotels and travel, following an incident where a fast bowler's wife posted content about team accommodation. Franchises hiring social media influencers with unrestricted access to team areas have drawn scrutiny, with the board citing increased risk of 'honey traps' and data leaks.
The BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has expanded its oversight to state-level T20 leagues, deploying officers in team hotels and conducting mandatory anti-corruption briefings. Instances of IPL players bringing unauthorized guests into team hotels during local tournaments have been flagged as serious violations. The board plans to enforce updated guidelines across all affiliated state leagues to maintain uniform standards.
