Pakistan's security forces killed five terrorists in coordinated operations in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on May 7 and 8, 2026, the military said in a statement on May 9. The operations, based on intelligence inputs, targeted militant hideouts in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts.
Four militants were killed in a military engagement in Tank district, all identified as members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In Dera Ismail Khan, one more TTP militant died in a firefight with security forces. Authorities recovered weapons and ammunition from the slain individuals.
The attacks follow a surge in violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, particularly since the TTP unilaterally broke a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022. Security forces have intensified operations in response to repeated assaults on police and military personnel. The military stated it remains committed to neutralizing militant networks in the region.
Officials confirmed ongoing surveillance and planning for follow-up raids in high-risk areas. The military will release further details as operations progress.
