Meta announced it will launch a camera‑free pair of smart glasses, codenamed Luna, at its Connect developer conference next Wednesday. The device will sport six built‑in microphones, a side‑button for quick AI activation, and in‑built speakers similar to those on current Meta glasses.
Luna’s lack of a camera responds to growing scrutiny over Meta’s earlier camera‑enabled models, which regulators and privacy groups have flagged as potential surveillance tools.
Inside sources told The Information that the six microphones enable users to converse with Meta’s AI chatbot and Muse, the company’s newly launched consumer AI agent.
The company plans to ship Luna by October, giving it a full calendar year to test market reception before the holiday season.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the upcoming Connect event will likely feature a live demo and a formal product launch.
