Congress Rejects Allegations of Backstabbing DMK, Supports TVK to Form Government in Tamil Nadu

The Congress party on Wednesday rejected allegations that it had backstabbed its long-time ally DMK by supporting TVK to form the government in Tamil Nadu. According to Congress' media and publicity chairperson Pawan Khera, the party never sought any post when the alliance was ruling and even the DMK had parted ways with it in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The DMK spokesperson Saravanan Anadurai criticized the Congress, saying it had backstabbed the people of Tamil Nadu and the mandate given by them. However, Khera countered that the DMK had also announced that it would fight the Lok Sabha polls alone in 2013, which was its democratic right.
The Congress has won five seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, while the TVK secured an impressive 108 seats on its maiden electoral debut. The DMK, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, finished with only 59 seats.
The immediate outlook is that the TVK will form the government in Tamil Nadu with the support of the Congress, while the DMK will likely go into opposition. The court will not be involved in this matter as it is a political decision.
