Kolkata Police's official X handle has unfollowed former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, along with other TMC-linked accounts, in the aftermath of the BJP's sweeping victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The account now follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the PMO, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Bengal's incoming Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The social media shift coincides with the withdrawal of security cover from the Trinamool Congress headquarters and residences of senior party leaders, officials confirmed. The changes reflect the transfer of power following the BJP's first outright majority in the state.
Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously elected leader of the BJP's legislature party Friday in the presence of Amit Shah and will be sworn in as Chief Minister Saturday. The ceremony in Kolkata will be attended by top BJP leaders, Prime Minister Modi, and dignitaries from across the country.
The Kolkata Police social media account update is seen as an administrative alignment with the new state government. The police department has not issued a public statement on the changes.
