Bihar Cabinet Expansion: PM Modi, Amit Shah to Attend; Nishant Kumar Likely to Join
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will expand his council of ministers on Thursday at a ceremony in Patna's Gandhi Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to attend the event, which marks the first major cabinet reshuffle since Choudhary assumed office. The expansion is expected to include the induction of Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, into the state government.
Nishant Kumar, a 45-year-old engineering graduate and member of the Janata Dal (United), reportedly accepted the cabinet position following consultations with party leadership. His entry into the government follows Nitish Kumar’s transition to the Rajya Sabha and the subsequent formation of the BJP-led administration under Samrat Choudhary last month. Sources suggest the younger Kumar may be assigned a high-profile portfolio within the new cabinet structure.
The expansion will also see the return of several JD(U) veterans, including Ashok Choudhary, Shrawan Kumar, and Leshi Singh. The new cabinet is designed to represent the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition, with expected representation from Chirag Paswan’s LJPRV, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM, and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM. Senior BJP leaders, including J.P. Nadda and Rajnath Singh, arrived in the Bihar capital on Wednesday to oversee the proceedings.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Gandhi Maidan. Following the event, the Raj Bhavan is expected to issue a formal notification detailing the specific portfolios assigned to the newly inducted ministers.
