The Cardiological Society of India (CSI), Kerala Chapter, opened its Summer Conference 2026 in Thrissur on Friday, convening over 300 cardiologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals to review advancements in cardiac diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. The three-day event focuses on emerging technologies including AI-assisted diagnostics, drug-coated balloon angioplasty, leadless pacemakers, and transcatheter valve replacements.
CSI Kerala president Asokan P.K., who inaugurated the conference, stated that modern imaging and minimally invasive procedures now enable earlier detection of heart disease and faster recovery. He emphasized the shift toward preventive cardiology and the integration of precision tools such as intravascular imaging and handheld echocardiography into routine practice.
A key announcement was the launch of the CSI–Joy Alukkas Free PPI Scheme, a CSR collaboration providing 30 dual-chamber pacemakers at no cost to uninsured, financially disadvantaged patients. Each MRI-compatible device carries a lifetime warranty and has a market value of approximately ₹2.5 lakh.
The conference includes scientific sessions on structural heart disease, electrophysiology, genetic cardiomyopathies, and microvascular angina, alongside expert lectures and case discussions. Awards were presented to 10 cardiologists for contributions to cardiovascular medicine.
The event will continue through Sunday with technical workshops and panel discussions; findings and recommendations are expected to inform clinical practices across Kerala and influence national cardiology guidelines.
