Nellore Underground Drainage Works to be Completed by 2026: Minister
Minister Ponguru Narayana stated that the underground drainage works in Nellore will be completed by the end of 2026, ensuring the city is free from mosquitoes. The project, which was initially undertaken by the TDP government with a cost of ₹550 crore, was stopped by the YSRCP government but has been restarted by the coalition government with an additional allocation of ₹70 crore.
The government is providing each drainage connection for just one rupee, and with the cooperation of the people, Nellore will be transformed into a beautiful city free from mosquitoes. Minister Narayana also allocated ₹10 crore for the modernisation of the drains in Kapatipalem, 51st Division of the city.
The development works within the municipal corporation limits are going on at a fast pace, and the Minister promised that fresh water will be provided to every household from Sangam Barrage through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme by July.
The Minister's announcement has outlined the immediate next steps for the project, with the completion of the underground drainage works expected by the end of 2026 and the provision of fresh water to every household by July.
