Lovely Professional University (LPU) announced a 10‑day suspension of all classes from Monday, September 28, 2026, following a wave of student protests in Phagwara that erupted after a social‑media post alleged a rape on campus.
The university’s notice also postponed the mid‑term examinations, with a revised timetable to be released on its Management System; students who opt to stay on campus have been advised to remain within hostels and avoid any involvement in unrest activities.
Police said the investigation into the alleged rape is still underway and have registered an FIR against several unnamed individuals. No confirmation yet that a student was raped on campus, and the accused’s identity remains unknown.
LPU’s administration urged students to travel home if they wish, in consultation with parents or guardians, during the suspension period, while campus security remains on high alert.
