The image, a black background with three white horizontal lines and a red vertical streak, was accompanied by the Sanskrit mantra "सत्यम् शिवम् सुन्दरम्" and shared by Rahul Gandhi on his official account on Tuesday.
Gandhi’s post comes as the Supreme Court is set to hear petitions challenging the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission's (EC) three SIR orders issued in June 2025, October 2025 and May 2026. The EC insists each decision was made unanimously, citing a joint affidavit signed by Kumar, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
In earlier campaigns, Gandhi has used Shiva imagery to criticize the EC, labeling the commission’s actions as a "Tandav" and demanding accountability for alleged unilateral decision‑making.
The court’s Tuesday hearing will determine whether the EC’s conduct violates the Election Code, potentially prompting a review of the SIR process. Should the court find fault, the EC could face a mandate to revisit the revisions or face a broader inquiry into its procedures.
