The Telangana State Hotels Association has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate intervention to address the sharp increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, citing unsustainable operational costs for small food businesses in Hyderabad and across the state. The group represents tiffin centres, tea stalls, bakeries, roadside eateries, and small hotels reliant on cooking gas for daily operations.
Members report mounting financial pressure, with many unable to offset costs through price hikes due to their customer base of middle-class families, students, labourers, and daily wage earners. The association warned that prolonged price increases could force widespread closures, affecting urban employment and food access for economically vulnerable populations.
The association called for an urgent review and rationalisation of commercial LPG pricing to protect small enterprises and consumer affordability. The appeal underscores growing distress in the informal food sector over energy cost volatility.
The government has not yet responded to the request, and the association awaits formal dialogue with energy and petroleum authorities.
