CPI and CPI(M) Offer Unconditional Support to TVK to Form Tamil Nadu Government

The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) on Friday, May 8, 2026, sent letters to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar offering unconditional support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form a government in the state. The letters, sent under the instructions of the respective party leaders, stated that the support was being extended in the interest of stable, secular, and democratic governance for the people of Tamil Nadu.
The CPI's letter was sent by State secretary M. Veerapandian and Legislature Party Leader T. Ramachandran, while the CPI(M) communication was issued by State secretary P. Shanmugam and newly elected Legislature Party Leader R. Chellaswamy.
The letters requested the Governor to take on record their unconditional support for the TVK, led by its legislative party leader C. Joseph Vijay.
The Governor's office is expected to review the letters and take necessary steps to facilitate the formation of a new government in Tamil Nadu. The TVK is expected to stake its claim to form the government in the coming days.
