Bengaluru Hospital Records Second Organ Donation in Three Months

A 43-year-old brain-dead woman from Bengaluru has donated her organs, enabling multiple patients to receive a new lease of life. The organ retrieval was carried out on Thursday at the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre on the State-run Victoria Hospital campus, attached to the Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute.
The retrieved organs, including kidneys, liver, corneas, and skin, were allocated to eligible recipients as per protocol in BMCRI-affiliated facilities on the hospital’s campus.
According to TECC special officer Asima Banu, the coordinated efforts of the TECC staff, BMCRI team, and the Jeevasaarthakate organ donation facilitation team ensured the smooth conduct of the retrieval process.
The liver will be used for transplant in the Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant, while the kidneys have been allotted to the Institute of Nephro-Urology, corneas to Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, and skin to the Skin Bank attached to Mahabodhi Burns ward in Victoria hospital.
The hospital authorities will continue to facilitate organ donations, with the next steps involving the transplantation of the retrieved organs to the eligible recipients, as per the hospital's protocol and the guidelines of the Jeevasaarthakate organ donation facilitation team.
