A woman identified as Indira, a resident of Bhagyanagar Colony in Golnaka, was rescued Saturday morning after spending more than 12 hours in a surplus drain near Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad. She had fallen into the drain Friday evening and clung to a tree branch through the night, her cries unheard due to the remote, vegetated location.
Passersby heard her faint calls around 10 a.m. Saturday and alerted HYDRAA, which dispatched its Disaster Response Force. Rescue teams used a ladder to extract her, with assistance from the Fire Services department, after finding her legs had become numb from immersion in contaminated water. She was conscious but in shock and unable to recall how she fell.
HYDRAA official P. Swamy, who led the five-member DRF team, confirmed the woman showed no signs of intoxication and sustained no injuries. She was released to her family after medical evaluation. The operation marks the second major rescue led by Swamy in recent months.
