The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suspended three spokespersons, including Riju Dutta, Kohinoor Majumdar, and Kartik Ghosh, for six years over alleged anti-party remarks made following the party's defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The suspensions were announced by TMC MP Derek O'Brien, who is a member of the party's disciplinary committee, after the spokespersons publicly questioned the leadership's functioning and campaign strategy.
Dutta has intensified the attack on the party leadership, alleging that corruption had become institutionalized within the party and claiming that people in Bengal now feel free to express themselves without fear after the BJP's victory. He also referred to the school jobs scam and said the allegations of job theft should have been given serious attention.
The TMC has sought explanations from the suspended leaders, asking why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them for breach of party discipline. A senior TMC leader said the party would respond to Dutta's allegations at the appropriate time and questioned why he raised the issues only after the election results.
The immediate outlook is that the TMC will continue to face internal conflicts, with some leaders reportedly keen to join the BJP. The party's disciplinary committee is expected to take further action against leaders who have violated party discipline, and the TMC is likely to respond to the allegations of corruption and job theft in the coming days.
