Owners of Turkey Track Ranch have finished rebuilding roughly 65 miles of fencing and re‑establishing its cattle operation, signaling the ranch’s full recovery from the 2024 blaze.
The 77,721‑acre estate, spanning the Caprock to the Canadian River, holds 26 miles of the river, eight creek basins, 64 wells and 838 acres under irrigation pivots, creating a self‑sustaining livestock hub that sits atop the Ogallala Aquifer.
The Smokehouse Creek Fire, ignited on February 26, 2024 by a fallen utility pole, consumed about 1.05 million acres across the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma, scorching 46,000 acres—roughly 60%—of Turkey Track’s rangeland and killing thousands of cattle.
The ranch first entered the market in 2021 at $200 million, later trimmed to $180 million, but was pulled off listings while the owners addressed the aftermath. Texas sued Southwestern Public Service, an Xcel Energy subsidiary, over the pole failure that sparked the fire.
Now marketed by Dallas‑based Icon Global, Turkey Track sits among Texas’s largest ranches for sale, offering a 25 % mineral stake and a price of $180 million, or about $2,300 per acre. Interested buyers can submit offers before the deadline set for September 30.
