A case under the POCSO Act has been registered against Bhageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following allegations of sexual harassment of a 17-year-old girl in Telangana. Police said the alleged relationship began seven to eight months ago, and the girl's mother accused Bhageerath of sexually harassing her daughter, though the minor has not yet been examined by authorities.
Bhageerath has filed a police complaint in Karimnagar, alleging that the girl and her parents conspired to extort Rs 5 crore from him. He claims he paid Rs 50,000 under duress after being threatened with false criminal cases and the girl's mother committing suicide if he refused. He stated he visited the family during social gatherings and religious trips believing them to be trustworthy.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar dismissed the allegations as a political conspiracy, claiming the case was timed to damage his reputation ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public meeting in Hyderabad on May 10. He asserted full faith in the judiciary and accused opponents of targeting his family to undermine a leader from a backward class background.
BRS working president K T Rama Rao condemned the handling of the case, questioned the Centre's 'Beti Bachao' campaign, and demanded Bandi Sanjay Kumar's removal from office. He also challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to support the alleged victim, as he did in the Unnao case.
Police are investigating both complaints, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether charges will be filed in either case. The court proceedings or further investigative updates are expected in the coming days.
