Sheetal Devi surged to a 142‑139 victory over Singapore's Alim Nur Syahidah, clinching the women's individual compound title at the Asian Para Games. The 19‑year‑old armless archer repeated her 2023 triumph, adding her second consecutive gold on the continental stage.
Alim opened the contest with a four‑point advantage after the first two ends, but Sheetal did not back down. Over the next two ends she fired six straight 10s, including three Xs, to erase the gap and take a two‑point lead into the final end. In the decisive end, Sheetal's calm yielded three 9s for 27 points while Alim's 9, 8, 9 summed to 26, sealing the win.
Earlier that day, she teamed with Toman Kumar to capture the compound mixed‑team gold, and later partnered with Payal Nag for a silver in the women's compound doubles. The pair topped the ranking round but fell 141‑150 to China in the final, underscoring Sheetal’s versatility across formats.
Her haul marks the first time an Indian woman has captured two golds in a single Asian Para Games edition twice, cementing her status as a rising star in para‑archery. At just 19, Sheetal’s resilience and precision continue to inspire a new generation of athletes.
With the World Championships on the horizon, Sheetal will test her mettle against the globe’s best, hoping to carry India’s banner higher than ever.
