On Thursday, Mahua Moitra entered Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi to file a formal complaint against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging he engaged in criminal conduct by bypassing established procedures for maintaining voter rolls.
Moitra claims Kumar sidestepped the Election Commission's three‑member structure, acting without the consent of the other two commissioners, and used the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to disenfranchise genuine voters.
The complaint follows an Indian Express investigation that highlighted 14 objections raised by Commissioners Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu over the past 10 months, and a controversial change to Form 6 that added a question about prior registration status.
Delhi police will now investigate the allegations, while the Parliament is expected to launch a review of the SIR procedure within the next week, a move that could pressure the Election Commission to amend its protocols.
