Ex-Trinamool MLA Raj Chakraborty Quits Politics After Election Loss

Raj Chakraborty, a filmmaker-turned-politician, announced on Thursday that he is quitting active politics, days after losing the West Bengal assembly election from Barrackpore to BJP's Kaustav Bagchi by 15,822 votes. Chakraborty, who won the Barrackpore seat in 2021, stated on social media that his political journey has come to an end.
Chakraborty said he had tried to fulfill his responsibilities as an MLA with sincerity and dedication, and now that chapter has ended. He expressed hope that West Bengal would progress under the BJP government, which is set to take oath on May 9.
Chakraborty's wife, actor Subhashree Ganguly, expressed support for him on social media, describing him as a 'superhero' despite the political setback.
The BJP's Kaustav Bagchi won the Barrackpore seat, defeating Chakraborty by a significant margin. The new government is expected to take oath on May 9, and Chakraborty's decision to quit politics comes ahead of this transition.
