SSUS Vice-Chancellor Seeks Explanation from Registrar Over Defamatory Banners
The Vice-Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Ciza Thomas, has sought an explanation from Registrar Mothi George for attending a procession with alleged defamatory banners and slogans against Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who is also the Chancellor of the university. The procession was held as part of the varsity fest and was organized by the university union led by the Students Federation of India.
The Registrar has been asked to submit his reply within three days and provide details of faculty members who attended the procession. The varsity authorities view the Registrar's presence at the procession as a violation of service norms.
The incident is related to recent controversies at the university, including allegations that the varsity Syndicate tried to award a degree to a candidate who had not fulfilled the minimum academic requirements. Governor Arlekar had directed the authorities to initiate action in this matter.
The Save University Campaign Committee has submitted a complaint seeking action against the Registrar for attending the procession. The Students Federation of India had staged a protest against the Governor on April 21, alleging that he was trying to implement the Sangh Parivar agenda.
The university authorities are expected to take further action after receiving the Registrar's explanation, with the Save University Campaign Committee seeking action against him. The Governor's office has not commented on the matter, but the university is likely to face further scrutiny over the incident.
