Chennai Super Kings must win all four of their remaining IPL 2026 matches to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs, according to Ravichandran Ashwin, who cited their current position in the congested points table and net run rate concerns. Speaking on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin predicted that Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all but confirmed for the top four, with the remaining two spots likely to be contested by Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.
After Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by chasing down 143, the playoff race intensified, with SRH leading the table on 14 points from 11 matches, followed by PBKS on 13 from 10. RCB and RR are tied on 12 points each, while GT also have 12 but trail on net run rate. CSK sit sixth with 10 points from 10 games.
Ashwin emphasized that even if CSK reach 16 points, qualification will depend on Rajasthan Royals losing three of their last four matches, Punjab Kings dropping points, and Chennai maintaining a strong net run rate. He identified their upcoming matches against Lucknow Super Giants as critical, saying a sweep could shift momentum in their favor.
The spinner drew parallels with CSK's 2010 title run, suggesting a turnaround is possible if the team wins high-pressure games. As the league stage enters its final phase, every result will have direct implications on the playoff picture.
The IPL 2026 league stage will continue with multiple fixtures scheduled this week, including CSK's next match against LSG, set to be played at Chepauk on Friday.
