Ravindra Chavan, MLA and BJP Maharashtra State President, declared that the third edition of the Dombivli Friendship Run will aim for a staggering 10,000 runners on November 29, 2026. He unveiled the event’s theme T‑shirts and medals at the Namo Ramo Navratri gathering, promising a celebration that blends sport, culture, and community.
The run, organised by Kalyan Dombivli Runners in partnership with Dombivlikar Ek Sanskruti Parivar, will feature five categories: a 21.1 km, 10 km, and 5 km timed run, plus 5 km and 1.6 km fun runs. Prize money of approximately ₹3 lakh will be awarded to the timed‑run winners, while the 1.6 km fun run remains free for children aged 8‑16 to encourage early fitness habits.
“Last two editions drew about 6,000 runners, but we’re shooting for 10,000 this year,” said Suraj Shetty, KDR spokesperson. He added that every participant will receive a dry‑fit T‑shirt, a finisher’s medal, hydration, light snacks, and a timing chip for the timed categories. The Thane District Athletics Association will officially recognise the event.
Route details are pending, but organisers promise a safe, well‑structured course with medical support and transport links. Registration closes on October 31, 2026, so runners—experienced or new, kids or seniors—must sign up fast to be part of Maharashtra’s biggest running day.
With the target in sight, the city’s athletes and families are already buzzing. The run’s success could set a new benchmark for mass participation events across India, and the next big challenge will be to keep the momentum going for the 2027 edition.
