A 42‑year‑old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki of the Assam Rifles was killed and four other soldiers were wounded when a patrol team was attacked near Nampong Nallah, on the Purai border in Pangchupath, Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, on 21 September.
The assault was carried out by cadres of the NSCN (KYA) faction, while ULFA (I) is also suspected to have been involved, according to preliminary reports from the region.
Assam Rifles, the army’s paramilitary wing, routinely patrols the 1,600‑km India‑Myanmar frontier to counter insurgent incursions and maintain border security.
Security forces have launched a search operation to locate the militants, and the Assam Rifles is expected to issue an official statement within the next 24 hours.
