District AIDS Control Officer G. Radhika on Friday instructed officials to ensure adequate blood stocks in all blood banks across Annamayya district. She directed the blood banks to maintain sufficient reserves and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent shortages during emergencies.
During an inspection of a blood bank, Dr. Radhika reviewed blood storage facilities, maintenance procedures, and records, and appealed to youth to participate in blood donation drives.
The DACO instructed each blood bank to organise at least 26 blood donation camps every month and warned that private blood banks must supply 30% of the blood collected to government blood banks.
Dr. Radhika also warned that the illegal sale of blood in hospitals is a punishable offence and that strict action would be taken against violators. The district authorities will closely monitor the blood banks' compliance with the directives, and further action will be taken to ensure the availability of blood in the region.
