The Indian-Australian family living in Morningside, Brisbane, is now weighing the option of returning to India after a harrowing incident on Monday, October 19, 2026. The threat was direct and violent: a 19-year-old man allegedly told them he would blow up their apartment block. The family, according to reports from The Australia Today, is so frightened that they are considering ending their lease and relocating back to their home country.
Harley Adams, the alleged perpetrator, appeared via video link at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday. A police prosecutor described the incident as an "extraordinary racist outburst." Adams allegedly believed the family had complained to police about him, which he thought led to his eviction from the complex. He reportedly became apologetic only after being informed that the family had not made any such complaint.
The incident has rippled through the apartment complex, with other residents also breaking their leases due to concerns about Adams’s behavior. Police told the court that the fear is widespread. Adams was arrested on Tuesday and charged with offences relating to threats and serious vilification under Queensland law, which can carry a prison sentence upon conviction.
Magistrate Peter Saggers, who handled the hearing, stated that the court treats threats of violence seriously. Adams was granted bail but under strict conditions: he must wear an electronic monitoring device, stay away from the Morningside apartment complex and its residents, and report to a police station three times a week. The case has been adjourned until November 16.
