At least 11 people were killed and several others injured when a van carrying wedding attendees plunged into a deep gorge in Malam Jabba, a tourist area in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, on May 11, 2026, according to Rescue 1122 officials. The vehicle lost control on a mountainous stretch, leading to the fatal fall.
Among the dead were several women and children, including the groom's mother, officials said. Local residents initiated rescue efforts before emergency teams arrived at the remote site. The injured were evacuated to Saidu Sharif Hospital for treatment.
Rescue operations in the region are hindered by difficult terrain, officials noted. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, while medical teams continue to assess the condition of the injured.
