Tamil Nadu Police Withdraw Enhanced Security Cover for TVK Leader Vijay

The Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday night withdrew the Z-Plus-scale security cover, including convoy and armed commandos, provided to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joseph Vijay, official sources confirmed. The high-level protection, comparable to that of the state Chief Minister, was scaled down to minimal levels following a request from senior TVK leadership.
The enhanced security was deployed on May 4, 2026, after early election trends indicated a sweeping victory for TVK in the Assembly polls. To manage large crowds of supporters and ensure safety, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police was placed in charge, supported by over a dozen armed CID commandos and two additional Superintendents of Police assigned to election-related duties.
Access control systems and route bandobust arrangements were implemented, signaling a temporary upgrade in protocol. However, with the situation stabilizing and no immediate threats reported, TVK leaders formally requested the removal of the convoy and special security measures.
The three officers assigned to special election duty have been reassigned to their original posts. Vijay continues to receive central 'Y' category security, provided by the Union Government through Central Reserve Police Force personnel, along with local police deployment during public movements and events.
