JPMorgan Offered $1M as Ex-Banker Sought $20M in Pre-Lawsuit Settlement Talks
Former JPMorgan banker Chirayu Rana allegedly demanded more than $20 million from the bank before filing his sexual harassment lawsuit against senior executive Lorna Hajdini, according to sources cited by the New York Post. JPMorgan reportedly offered $1 million to settle the matter before Rana's counteroffer of $11.75 million. The lawsuit was filed in New York County Supreme Court last month under the pseudonym John Doe.
The complaint alleges Hajdini drugged Rana with viagra and forced him into repeated sexual encounters, including racist abuse and humiliating demands. Rana claims the harassment began after he joined in 2024 and that he suffered career retaliation and PTSD. Two witnesses have come forward with accounts supporting aspects of the allegations.
Both Hajdini and JPMorgan have denied all accusations, with the bank stating an internal investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing after reviewing emails, phone records and witness statements. Hajdini's colleagues have described the lawsuit as "fan fiction." Rana's legal team maintains the allegations are genuine and will present supporting evidence.
The case has additional controversies, including Rana's alleged false claim about his father's death to obtain bereavement leave. Rana filed an internal complaint in May 2025 before leaving the bank and joining private equity firm Bregal Sagemount, where he departed weeks before filing suit.
The lawsuit challenges company structure since Rana and Hajdini reported to different managers, though Rana's lawyers argue this does not invalidate the harassment claims. The case proceeds as New York County Supreme Court continues proceedings.
