Wipro shares slipped 1.2% on Tuesday after SEBI announced a ₹10 lakh penalty against insider Supriya Kothari.
The penalty, imposed under Section 15A of the SEBI Act, follows a series of summonses issued from September 5 to December 24, 2025, that Kothari failed to comply with. SEBI sought documents and trade details on multiple occasions, but the insider ignored all communications, forcing the regulator to impose the fine.
This regulatory sanction is the first direct penalty linked to Wipro’s insider‑trading investigation. The market has responded with caution, as the company’s shares have been trading within a tight band since the probe was first announced in September, reflecting heightened scrutiny.
Analysts note that Wipro will likely issue a compliance statement soon and may need to adjust its governance framework. SEBI has hinted at extending the investigation to other insiders if cooperation remains limited, adding pressure on the company ahead of its next earnings release.
