In a blistering display, Sheetal Devi matched the world record with a 704‑point haul in the women’s compound qualification at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya.
She struck 57 perfect 10s out of 72 arrows and landed 32 Xs in the innermost ring, pushing her score six points past the old Asian record of 698 set last March.
The 19‑year‑old, a bronze medalist from the Paris Paralympics and reigning Asian Games champion, also eclipsed her own 680‑point mark from Hangzhou 2023.
India’s debutant Payal added 675 points, taking fifth place and giving the country a comfortable lead in the team standings, 1,379 to China’s 1,338.
With the top spot secured, Sheetal and Payal will move straight into the semifinals, where they’ll face the winner of the quarter‑final between Thailand and Kazakhstan. They’ll chase a medal in the upcoming knockout round.
