The Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh State Secretary, Eswaraiah, demanded on May 10, 2026, that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar resign from his ministerial position and Lok Sabha seat following the registration of a POCSO case against his son in Telangana. The case, filed at Basheerabad Police Station, names Bandi Sai Bhageerath in connection with the alleged harassment of a 17-year-old girl.
Eswaraiah accused the BJP leadership of maintaining silence and shielding the accused, calling it an act of political hypocrisy. He warned that Kumar's continued presence in office could lead to misuse of power to influence the investigation or tamper with evidence, undermining the fairness of the judicial process.
The CPI leader called for Kumar's immediate resignation to ensure a transparent inquiry, along with high-level police protection for the victim and her family. He also demanded a time-bound, impartial investigation free from political interference and urged the government to enforce stricter measures to uphold equal application of the law.
The party reiterated its stance that accountability must extend to all, regardless of political affiliation, and said it would monitor the case closely for official action. The Telangana police have not issued a public statement on the status of the investigation.
