Ashwini Biradar, 30, was taken into custody on a Thursday in Vijayapura district, Karnataka, after police recovered CCTV footage linking her, painter Anand Kallur, 25, and two other suspects to the fatal hit‑and‑run that killed her husband, Rajshekhar Biradar, 42, on Oct. 4.
The investigation began when Rajshekhar’s body was found near Chidambara Temple Road, the site of a presumed road‑accident involving an unmarked black Scorpio SUV. The police traced the vehicle to a black Scorpio without a number plate, and a motorcycle rider who later confessed to assisting the plot.
Karnataka Police Inspector R. Rajagopal said the trio had tracked Rajshekhar’s morning walks, using the unmarked SUV to strike him from behind before fleeing. He added that the motive was financial, as the couple had been battling marital disputes and the couple had six‑year‑old twin sons.
The arrest came after the Biradars had been married for a decade; Rajshekhar had recently built a new house in Ekta Nagar and hired Kallur to paint it, during which the painter allegedly developed a relationship with Ashwini. The police are preparing evidence for trial, with the court scheduled to convene in November.
