Karnataka Cabinet Sets Up Sub-Committee to Study State Education Policy
The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to set up a Cabinet sub-committee to study the State Education Policy, following a presentation by Prof. Sukhdeo Thorat, who led the State Education Policy Commission. The sub-committee will be authorized by the Chief Minister to recommend the implementation of the policy.
The Cabinet also approved The Karnataka Motor Transport and Other Allied Workers Social Security and Welfare (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which will bring the Karnataka Motor Transport and Other Related Workers’ Social Security and Welfare Board under the Transport Department.
Other approvals included the setup of an Immersive Wildlife Room and a Digital Zoo Guide at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and Bannerghatta Biological Park, as well as an aquarium at Bannerghatta, at a total cost of ₹224.24 crore.
The Cabinet also cleared a 2% reservation for sportspersons by amending the Karnataka Civil Services (General) Recruitment rules. The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, H.K. Patil, stated that the sub-committee's recommendations may take some time, as they need to study eight chapters covering various aspects of the education policy. The next steps will involve the Chief Minister authorizing the sub-committee and the implementation of the approved proposals.
