Katie Suarez is fighting for her life at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn after an attacker slashed her neck with a knife. The 28-year-old was jogging along the Shore Parkway Greenway when the assault occurred. Police confirmed the incident happened around 8 pm local time on Friday, October 30.
Suarez was training for the New York City Marathon, according to ABC 7. She had left work earlier that evening with a specific plan: meet her parents after her run. At 8 pm, she spoke to them by phone, noting she was half a mile from their location. Then the line went dead. Her parents realized something was wrong when she missed the meeting point and stopped answering calls.
The NYPD has narrowed the investigation window to 16 minutes. Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw Suarez between 7:56 pm and 8:12 pm. The area of interest is the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, specifically between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street. Authorities have not released a suspect description or motive.
The attack has shaken the local running community. Officers are urging anyone with footage or sightings to contact the precinct immediately. The case remains open as forensic teams process the scene for evidence.
