India Orders Release of Harangi Reservoir Water for Drinking Purposes

The Regional Commissioner of Mysuru Division has ordered the release of 500 cusecs of water per day from Harangi reservoir into the river from May 9 to 13 to supply drinking water to the taluks of Kushalnagar, Periyapatna, Arakalgudu, Hunsur, K.R. Nagar, and Saligrama.

According to a statement issued by Executive Engineer of Harangi Rehabilitation Division, Kushalnagar, I.K. Puttaswamy, the order was made during a meeting of the Harangi Reservoir Drinking Water Committee.

The matter has been brought to the notice of MLA of Madikeri Assembly constituency, Manthar Gowda, who is also the chairman of the Harangi Reservoir Project Irrigation Advisory Committee.

People living in the basin of the Harangi and Cauvery rivers have been alerted to take precautionary measures to protect their property, livestock, and lives, and to move to safer places if necessary.

The authorities will monitor the situation closely, and further instructions will be issued as necessary, with the release of water scheduled to commence on May 9.
