Around 8 a.m. on Sunday, the army ambulance, laden with the body of Subedar Major Satyawan, lost control and slammed into a parked truck near the 79.6‑km marker of the Purvanchal Expressway in Haliyapur, close to the Ayodhya–Sultanpur border.
The vehicle had departed Chandigarh earlier that morning to bring the deceased soldier back to his native village of Galiya Dudhailla in the Rudrapur area of Deoria district.
The impact ruptured the ambulance's body, killing on‑scene Gaurav Singh, 28, the soldier’s son, along with driver Jaspal, 30, while Rajan Chaudhary, 35, and nephew Ram Samujh Singh, 40, later succumbed to injuries in Pithla‑Kumarganj hospital.
Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal, accompanied by District Magistrate Indrajeet Singh, arrived at the scene after the incident was reported.
Police have secured the remains, conducted post‑mortem examinations, and notified the families; an investigation into the cause of the collision has been launched.
Local residents in Galiya Dudhailla mourn the loss of a respected soldier and his family, while army officials promise a thorough inquiry.
