Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bengaluru on Sunday was marred by the discovery of suspected explosive materials along his scheduled route, prompting the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to join the probe. The incident occurred near the Kanakapura Road stretch leading to the Art of Living campus, where security personnel discovered a suspicious plastic cover containing explosive substances during routine route sanitisation.
The explosive materials, which included six stick-like objects resembling gelatin sticks, wires, matchsticks, empty containers, and tape materials, were found in a vacant area approximately 20 feet away from the roadside near the forest compound.
According to the complaint filed by police constable Jagadish Doddamani, the suspicious material was noticed during bandobast duty ahead of the Prime Minister's programme at the Art of Living campus.
A case has been registered at Kaggalipura Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act, and further investigation is underway, with officials examining whether the explosive materials were intentionally placed to target the Prime Minister's convoy route or whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the incident.
The NIA and local authorities will continue to investigate the incident, with senior officials reviewing possible security lapses and analysing CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs. The court will not be involved in this case at this stage, but the police will provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available.
