A bride in Etah district's Sakit area refused to solemnize her marriage on Sunday after the groom fell ill during the wedding rituals, police said. The groom, a native of Katholi village, allegedly lost his balance and fell from his chair during the ceremony, triggering a dispute between the two families.
The bride's family refused to proceed with the wedding ceremony and demanded the groom's health report, alleging that his relatives had concealed details regarding his illness before finalizing the marriage proposal.
According to local residents, the disagreement escalated into an argument between the two sides, despite repeated attempts by local elders and relatives to mediate a compromise.
The bride remained firm on her decision not to proceed with the wedding, and the wedding procession returned without her. Police said no written complaint had been received from either side so far, but both parties have been called to the police station.
The police will take necessary action if a complaint is filed, according to Station House Officer Videsh Rathi. The matter is currently under observation, and the police are waiting for a formal complaint to proceed with the case.
