Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow in Gir Somnath district, Gujarat, on Monday, ahead of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav commemorating 75 years since the inauguration of the restored Somnath Temple by India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in 1951. The event marks a major milestone in the temple's modern history and highlights its cultural and religious significance as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Thousands lined the 1.5-kilometer route from the helipad to Veer Hamirji Circle, waving flags and chanting slogans as Modi's convoy passed. Traditional dance performances by artists from across India, including West Bengal, were held at designated points along the roadshow path. Modi arrived in Jamnagar on Sunday night and stayed overnight before proceeding to Somnath on Monday morning.
The prime minister is scheduled to perform 'Abhishek', 'Dhwaj Pooja', and 'Maha Pooja' rituals at the temple, with flower petals to be showered from helicopters during the ceremonies. He will later address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground, where officials expect a large turnout.
The Somnath泉otstav is part of a broader observance of India's civilizational heritage, with state and central authorities organizing cultural and religious events over the coming days. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
