Opposition leaders Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav led a march to New Delhi’s Supreme Court today, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protest is part of a broader campaign by the INDIA bloc, which has spotlighted alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and called for accountability across the election machinery.
CJI Surya Kant refused to meet the opposition, citing that the matters were already sub judice and would be dealt with by the court, and urged the parties to file a formal petition.
Local Delhi resident Mrs. Anika Sharma, who had been following the case for months, said the march gave her hope that the judiciary would act.
The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for 15 October, where the petition will be examined, and the outcome could force a reshuffle in the Election Commission.
