Hyderabad Police have launched a multi-city manhunt for a seven-member gang suspected of murdering Tanuja Ranjan, 55, wife of former IPS officer Vinay Ranjan, at their Jubilee Hills residence in the early hours of Friday, May 8. The suspects fled aboard the Telangana Express from Nampally railway station, prompting police deployments to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Lucknow, Delhi, and regions near the Nepal border.
Investigators identified the gang as comprising six men and one woman, Kalpana, who allegedly facilitated entry into the house. Preliminary probe indicates the killing was linked to robbery, with police assessing stolen valuables and reviewing CCTV footage for leads. At the time of the attack, Vinay Ranjan was away, and the couple’s children, asleep on an upper floor, were unharmed and unaware.
Special teams from Hyderabad Police are coordinating with local forces in the search, focusing on tracking the suspects’ movements since their departure from Nampally. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of the suspects crossing into Nepal. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday as the investigation remains ongoing.
