
The ICC dropped the full fixture list on Thursday, putting India on the front line of the 2027 World Cup. The opening clash is slated for October 7 at Cape Town's iconic Newlands, a venue that has hosted some of cricket's most memorable battles.
India and Pakistan find themselves in the same Group A, a reunion that fans have been waiting for since the 1996 final. The group also features Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and the qualifier winner from the Africa region—an extra twist that adds drama to the early stages.
Beyond the marquee matchups, the tournament will feature 57 games across 12 venues, from Johannesburg's Wanderers to Namibia's Windhoek. Namibia, despite not being a full ICC member, will host but must earn its place via the qualifiers, adding an extra layer of intrigue.
India secured its spot through the ODIs rankings, joining a cohort that includes New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. With South Africa and Zimbabwe automatically in as hosts, the remaining four berths will be decided in the qualifiers early next year.
