Amy Jones, 23, told police she infiltrated Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee on September 24 because she was bored and wanted to cause trouble. The court complaint alleges she signed in as a substitute teacher despite having no employment contract with the school or any teaching agency. Principal Doreen Badillo noted that several staff members were absent that day, leaving one substitute position unfilled, a gap Jones allegedly exploited.
But the deception unraveled quickly. A staff member who initially stayed in the classroom with Jones for 20 minutes left, allowing Jones to begin making offensive remarks to the students. She allegedly asked pupils if they possessed marijuana or vapes and made insulting comments about their weight, race, and financial status. The complaint further states she used racial slurs and organized students by race and gender.
Students reported the behavior to school staff, who contacted the substitute teaching agency to verify Jones' credentials. The agency confirmed she was not an employee. Police arrived and escorted Jones from the building. When questioned, Jones reportedly stated she hated children and had no intention of teaching.
Jones now faces charges of impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions. She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on October 20. The school district is conducting its own internal investigation into how Jones gained access to the building.
