KGBV Contract Teachers Allege Forced Transfers in Andhra Pradesh
Contract teachers at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) in Andhra Pradesh have alleged that they were forcibly transferred to distant places without any notification for the academic year 2026-27. The teachers, who are members of the KGBVs Teachers’ Union Andhra Pradesh (KGBVSTUAP), claim that principals and teachers who have completed five and eight years of service, respectively, were asked to submit transfer applications informally.
According to KGBVSTUAP president Ratna Malini Devi, the application for transfers was put in their group on March 31, 2026, without any formal proceedings, and teachers were threatened that their contracts would not be renewed if they did not comply.
Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao said that the government is transferring the teachers as per the terms in the contract to prevent monopoly and protect student interests.
The transfer process is being done after considering the teachers’ preferences, and in a transparent manner, according to Rao. The union has demanded that the government stop the forced transfers and address their concerns, including increasing salaries and implementing the Minimum of Time Scale (MTS).
The court will review the matter, and the government is expected to respond to the union's demands in the coming days.
