Ola Electric's stock slid 9% to its lowest level in the week after the company disclosed that its board will convene on September 28 to evaluate a rights issue under SEBI Listing Regulation 29. The move follows a successful ₹780 crore QIP in June, which was oversubscribed by 56% and attracted a mix of global and domestic institutional investors, including Goldman Sachs, BNP Climate Fund and Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund.
According to the July 1 exchange filing, Q1 FY27 registrations climbed to 43,719 units, nearly double the 22,252 units recorded in the March quarter. Company officials pointed to stronger retail execution, heightened demand and expanded product availability as the primary drivers of this surge.
The rights‑issue proposal comes at a time when the electric two‑wheeler market is tightening, with competitors like Ather Energy and Bajaj Auto ramping up production. Analysts note that the dilution risk could weigh on per‑share valuations unless the capital raised is deployed efficiently.
Board discussions will also determine the issue price and the number of shares to be offered. Market participants are closely monitoring the September 28 session, anticipating that a higher issue price could offset dilution, while a lower price might signal tighter capital needs.
Looking ahead, the company has not yet issued forward guidance, but the upcoming board decision will shape short‑term price dynamics and investor sentiment across the sector.
