Senior Congress leader K.C. Joseph criticized the public tussle by party supporters over the Kerala Chief Minister post on Saturday, warning that taking internal matters to the streets could have dangerous consequences. He referred to protests, flex boards, and posters put up by supporters of Congress leaders V.D. Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal, and Ramesh Chennithala, who are being considered for the top post.
Mr. Joseph, a Congress MLA for 39 years, expressed his concerns in a Facebook post, stating that silence is preferable and that everyone should realize the potential harm of taking internal affairs public.
The public disagreements, according to Mr. Joseph, would ultimately harm the party itself, citing the protest demonstrations held in Thiruvananthapuram where the image of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was allegedly torn.
The Congress won 63 seats in the 140-member Assembly, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance won 102 seats, staging a comeback in the southern State.
The court or party officials have not commented on the matter, but the party is expected to address the issue in the coming days, with the leadership likely to take steps to resolve the internal disputes and choose a candidate for the Chief Minister post.
