Women are increasingly silenced in workplaces due to casual sexism, microaggressions and gendered humour, speakers at a panel discussion under Telangana’s 'Stand With Her' initiative said on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The event, held in Hyderabad, brought together corporate leaders, filmmakers and police officials to address how everyday remarks and stereotypes create emotionally unsafe environments for women.
Additional Director General of Police Charu Sinha said women often alter their behaviour to fit into male-dominated workplaces, noting that silence is a reaction to hostile environments, not personality. Film director Sailesh Kolanu and Chai Bisket co-founder Sharath Chandra stressed that media and storytelling shape social norms, urging men to unlearn patriarchal conditioning absorbed over generations.
Corporate representatives highlighted persistent biases, including interruptions in meetings, appearance-based judgments, and decisions made without consulting women. Sailaja Josyula of Cognizant said women are routinely subjected to comments masked as compliments, while Masoor Hussaini of Tata Advanced Systems cited employment of rural women as transformative for both workplaces and communities.
Panelists emphasized that gender sensitivity must begin at home, with boys taught emotional awareness and shared responsibilities. They called for leaders to challenge sexist remarks, ensure equal participation in meetings and promote inclusive cultures.
The panel concluded that sustained change requires accountability, representation and small, consistent behavioural corrections in workplaces, families and media. Organizers said follow-up discussions will be held across districts in Telangana starting next month.
